Caribbean Literature and Culture in a Global Context -- Assistant Professor
DUTIES: The College of Arts and Letters and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Michigan State University seek a tenure-stream Assistant Professor of Caribbean literature and culture and whose research focus also supports any of the themes associated with a new Global Studies Major in Arts and Humanities being established in the College of Arts and Letters: ethnic, diaspora and cultural studies, migrations, or the impact of immigrant cultures on national identities beginning August 16, 2008. The successful applicant is expected to work closely with the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies and other programs in the College such as Literatures of the Americas and Chicano-Latino Studies. We are interested in a colleague who can teach courses in Caribbean Literature and Culture on the undergraduate and graduate levels and who can actively contribute to the planned Global Studies Program.
QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in Hispanic Studies/Spanish and excellent language proficiency in Spanish and English required (language competency in another language spoken in the Caribbean is desirable but not essential). The successful candidate will be a dynamic teacher and an engaged university citizen, who will be actively involved in program building in Spanish and in Global Studies.
