Assistant Professor
DUTIES: The Department of Theatre at Michigan State University seeks to fill a tenure-track position for Assistant Professor beginning August 16, 2008.
The successful candidate will teach acting courses for the Department of Theatre as well as other undergraduate courses with the possibility of teaching graduate courses. Secondary emphasis in movement, directing, community engagement, or media acting and production is desirable with possible directing responsibilities in the Department’s Mainstage season. The candidate also has the opportunity to contribute to the College of Arts and Letters programmatic emphasis on global studies, including the development of an undergraduate major in Global Studies in the Arts and Humanities. This person will initiate and coordinate joint projects between the Department of Theatre and the RCAH.

The Residential College in the Arts and Humanities (RCAH) is a four-year degree-granting program with a structured curriculum that emphasizes transcultural history, literature, visual and performing arts, composition, language immersion, civic engagement and social justice. The RCAH welcomed its inaugural class in fall 2007.
Duties in RCAH will include teaching undergraduate introductory core courses for the major as well as courses in performance, small seminars, tutorials, and civic engagement courses whose content would include theatre as a social tool. grassroots engagement. improvisation and other dramatic expressions. as well as mentoring the RCAH Players-- the College theatre troupe.
QUALIFICATIONS: Terminal degree and university teaching experience required. Professional affiliations preferred. A commitment to the collaborative process and to excellence in theatre in a Liberal Arts setting are essential.
