Global Studies in the Arts and Humanities

The College of Arts and Letters at Michigan State University announces a new initiative in Global Studies in the Arts and Humanities.  We seek a Director prepared to develop this project and several new faculty who are interested in collaborating with it as they assume specific disciplinary positions.

The new major in Global Studies in the Arts and Humanities at Michigan State University represents an innovative approach to the study of ethics, justice, language, and culture, emphasizing their interconnections and situating these studies in relation to the larger world dynamics that have shaped and reconfigured the lived conditions of specific peoples in particular locations, throughout history and in the present.

Global Studies in the Arts and Humanities at Michigan State University will figure within an existing network of interdisciplinary and international programs. The cluster of new positions listed here represent our aim to build a faculty committed to pedagogy and scholarship founded on an awareness of the complex layering of languages, values, cultures, and ethnicities constituted through the conditions of cultural interaction, exchange, and conflict from the earliest periods to the current moment.
