Language, Culture and Service in Puerto Rico

Language, Culture, and Service in Puerto Rico is a study away program designed for students who have completed SPN 202 or its equivalent.  During this program, students will spend four weeks in San Juan, Puerto Rico, living in home stays, taking classes, and experiencing life in La Isla del Encanto.  Students will participate in a service learning activity and in a number of excursions to places like El Yunque rainforest, the caves in Camuy, and the Bioluminescent Bay.  Come join us for an exciting learning experience in Puerto Rico!  

Application Deadline:  March 1, 2017

Dates: May 15 to June 10, 2017

Eligibility: Students must have a 2.0 overall GPA and have successfully completed SPN 202. 

Course Offerings:  Students will enroll for a minimum of 7 credits in the following courses:

  • SPN 310 or SPN 342 (3 credits)
  • Second level IAH or AL 491 (4 credits)

Housing:  Students will be placed in a home stay.   

Program Fee: $1500
Program Fee will include home stay, two meals daily, group excursions, tours and transfers to and from service placement and excursions. Fee does not include MSU tuition, transportation to and from Puerto Rico, some local transportation, books and materials, additional meals, personal spending money. Financial Aid should be applicable to the total estimated cost of the program.
