As many of you know, the College Curriculum Council (CCC) passed a new Experiential Education graduation requirement for College of Arts & Letters undergraduate students that is now in place starting fall 2018. For more information on the requirement visit the registrars site on Graduation Requirements for the Bachelors of Arts in the College of Arts & Letters.

In AY 17-18, the faculty-led Experiential Education Task Force, chaired by Cara Cilano (Dept. of English), established a definition of experiential education for the requirement as well as student learning outcomes.

College Approval Procedure: Please note that there is a College approval process that each course must go through to carry the Experiential Education designation that fulfills the requirement.  Departments will need to submit the Experiential Education Course Proposal Form for approval by the CCC.

If the course already exists, then only this form is required for submission. Please follow the normal CCC curriculum proposal deadlines.  If the course is new, then both this form and the university course proposal form need to be filled out, as the College Experiential Education course proposal form does not proceed to the university level for approval as it is a College requirement.  All existing study abroad and study away courses were all approved at the CCC August meeting.

The CCC is still discussing the best ways of approving so-called “one-off” approvals and will have recommendations following this month’s meeting.
