MSU Excellence-in-Teaching Citation

ABOUT THE AWARD

MSU Excellence-In-Teaching Citations are awarded to six graduate teaching assistants who have distinguished themselves by the care they have given and the skill they have shown in meeting their classroom responsibilities. The essential purpose of the citation is to bring University-wide recognition to the best of the graduate teaching assistants and by so doing to underline the qualitative contribution which they are making to the undergraduate program.

CRITERIA

Citations will be awarded according to the following criteria (in order of importance):

  1. Instructional effectiveness.
  2. Use of innovative techniques and/or approaches in teaching.
  3. Scholarly promise.
  4. Other significant involvement and/or activities.

At the time of nomination, the nominee must be a graduate student who has had assigned instructional responsibility for at least one semester; He/she must also be assigned an assistantship in summer 2019 or in the academic year 2019-2020 (including summer 2020). The nominee must be an enrolled student in the academic year 2019-2020.

NOMINATION PROCESS

Up to three individuals may be nominated from the College of Arts & Letters. This is the first step in initiating the nomination process for the Excellence-in-Teaching Citation Award.  The College of Arts & Letters Award Committee will review all submissions.  Once the nomination has been approved by the committee, you will then complete and assemble the nomination packet according to the All-University Awards requirements for the Excellence-in-Teaching Citation Award.

NOMINATOR STATEMENT: Be certain to address the above criteria.

ADDITIONAL LETTER OF SUPPORT: If the nominator is not the nominee’s supervisor, the faculty member who has supervisory responsibility must provide a letter of support.
