The Undergraduate Juried Exhibition, featuring work by students enrolled in Department of Art, Art History, and Design (AAHD) classes, opened April 5 and runs through Sunday, April 28, at (SCENE) Metrospace, 110 Charles St. in East Lansing. During the exhibition, (SCENE) Metrospace will be open Thursdays, 3-7 p.m.; Fridays, 1-7 p.m.; Saturdays, 12-5 p.m., and Sundays 12-5 p.m.

An opening reception and awards ceremony was held on April 5 with awards presented in the following categories: Apparel & Textile Design, Ceramics, Comics Art & Graphic Novels, Drawing, Electronic Art + Intermedia, Graphic Design, Photography, Painting, Printmaking, and Sculpture.

Student work was critiqued by guest juror, Alison Wong, an artist, curator, and educator based in Detroit. Wong received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. Primarily working in the field of painting and drawing, Wong takes inspiration from her personal histories and her professional practice as a Director and Curator of Wasserman Projects, founder of Butter Projects, and Adjunct Faculty at the College for Creative Studies.

“Every single piece in this show tells a larger story,” Wong said. “It’s a huge achievement for those who even submitted work into the exhibition and I commend them for submitting.”
