College Update Regarding Remote Working

Dear Staff and Faculty,

In responding to the evolving challenges of the novel coronavirus outbreak, the health and safety of our community is our College’s top priority. The Culture of Care we have been creating will guide us as we navigate through this difficult period.

The recent announcement from Governor Whitmer to close all K-12 Michigan schools through April 5 will add a heavy burden to many members of our staff and faculty. President Stanley has indicated that we should “take every measure possible to encourage any employee who is able to work from home to do so.” We have approved plans with Chairs, Directors, and Supervisors for each unit to empower you to work remotely if you are able. Please consult with your unit leader. We will be flexible and accommodating as we adjust to new ways of working.

I trust you to make informed decisions to ensure the health and safety of your family, friends, and colleagues. We recognize this is an unprecedented situation that causes anxiety, stress, and fear. Now more ever, it is important to remain calm and support one another as we act on behalf of the well-being of our community.

Please monitor updates from the University and visit cal.msu.edu/news/msu-novel-coronavirus-response-updates for related information.

We will continue to communicate in the days to come. Please know how grateful I am for your ongoing conscientious leadership.

Sincerely,

Christopher P. Long
