Awards / Scholarships / Prizes

Ryder Scholarship 
All MSU students who are planning to study abroad are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Past recipients have had a GPA of 3.5 or above. Awards can be used for study abroad programs offered during the summer, fall, or spring semester. Applications must be submitted to 200 Linton Hall. The amount of the award depends on available funds. The award will be credited during the tuition payment process. Application deadline is February 25, 5:00 p.m. Download the application here.


The John W. Eadie Scholarship in Arts and Letters for International Education

Eligible students are notified by the College of Arts and Letters. Applicants must be a primary major in Arts and Letters, be junior standing (56-87 earned credits), have a minimum GPA of 2.5, and reach senior standing by the following summer or fall semester. The amount of the award depends on available funds. The award will be credited during the summer or fall tuition payment process. The William J. Lowe Endowed Scholarship for Undergraduate Study in Ireland
Eligible students are notified by the College of Arts and Letters. Applicants must be a primary major in Arts and Letters, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, have a sophomore or above class standing (minimum 28 credits), and planning to study abroad in Ireland for the upcoming spring, summer, or fall semesters. The amount of the award depends on available funds. The award will be credited during the tuition payment process. Application deadline is February 25, 5:00 p.m. Download the application here.

Louis B. Sudler Prize in the Arts
Scholarship announcements are mailed to departments that teach creative and performing arts within the College of Arts and Letters and to the dean of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. Students must be nominated by faculty in those units and nomination must also include a letter of endorsement from the chair or director of the unit. The amount of the award depends on available funds. The Sudler Prize is a cash award. College application deadline is February 25, 5:00 p.m. Download announcement, endorsement form and release form. 

The Audrey and John Leslie Endowed Scholarship in Arts and Letters
Eligible students are notified by the College of Arts and Letters. This scholarship is based on financial need. Financial aid application must be on file with MSU (The Office of Financial Aid office will provide financial need determination). Applicants must be a primary major in Arts and Letters with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, be in their sophomore year when applying (28-55 credits earned), and be of junior status (56-87 credits earned) the semester following receipt of the award. Assuming the recipient maintains academic eligibility, he or she may reapply for the scholarship for a second consecutive year; if the second year is the student's senior year the recipient may reapply for the scholarship to support graduate study in a program offered by the College of Arts and Letters. The amount of the award depends on the funds available. The award will be credited during the following fall tuition payment process. The Marian Lee Aylesworth Award in Arts and Letters
Eligible students are notified by the College of Arts and Letters. Applicants must be a primary major in Art and Letters with a minimum GPA of 3.5. Preference will be given to students majoring in English with membership in the Honors College. The amount of the award depends on available funds. The award will be credited during the following fall tuition payment process. Application deadline is February 25, 5:00 p.m. Download the application here.

The Nora Sager Stackhouse Endowed Scholarship in Arts and Letters
Eligible students are notified by the College of Arts and Letters. Applicants must be a primary major in Arts and Letters, a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, be in their sophomore year (28-55 credits earned), and be of junior status (56-87 credits earned) the semester following receipt of the award. The amount of the award depends on the funds available. The award will be credited during the following fall tuition payment process. Application deadline is

College of Arts and Letters Outstanding Senior Achievement Award and
Alumni Award for Undergraduate Excellence

Eligible students must have a primary major in the College of Arts and Letters, 3.5 or above GPA and expect to graduate any semester of the current calendar year (Spring, Summer or Fall).  Awards of $1000 will be given to each recipient. Applications require the endorsement of the applicant's chairperson or director and are due in the student's department office on February 18. Department/Program Offices will submit packets to 200 Linton Hall by

Alumni Endowed Student Book Scholarship and Robert L. Fiore Student Book Scholarship in Arts and Letters
Several $500 book scholarships are available to students whose primary major is within the College of Arts and Letters. Applicants must be of sophomore, junior, or senior status with a record of academic excellence, particularly in Arts and Letters courses. Applications are due February 25 to the CAL Alumni Relations Office. Click HERE for more information, including the criteria and application.
