Study Abroad and Study Away

Study Abroad

The College of Arts & Letters leads the way in study abroad at MSU. Not only does the College sponsor more than 75 programs, more than 40% of our graduates have studied abroad. With programs on 6 continents, more than 60 countries, representing every degree program in the College, and lasting anywhere from 2 weeks to a full academic year, MSU offers students many programs to suit their needs.

Grounded in the belief that today’s students need more global exposure and experience than ever before to compete in the 21st century, the College of Arts & Letters works with the Office of Study Abroad and students from across the University to find high quality learning opportunities abroad.

Study Away

The College of Arts and Letters offers undergraduate students opportunities to earn academic credit through Study Away courses and internships in different locations within the United States, particularly during the summer months.  These programs allow students to immerse themselves in active learning experiences enhanced by extended exposure to new cultural and residential communities.  Students who are accepted to participate in Study Away programs pay a program fee to cover housing and related expenses and enroll for a prescribed number of credits associated with the specific program, which may last from four to ten weeks.

The College of Arts and Letters has established Study Away Internship opportunities for undergraduate students in Boston, New York City, Washington D.C., and San Francisco during teh summer semester. These domestic internships allow students to build career-related work experience in a field of their choice while earning academic credit for learning, living, and working in a new environment. Students pay a program fee that covers housing and related expenses, as well as tuition for the specific number of credits for which they enroll.  Additional information is available in the Study Abroad & Study Away Office in 200 Linton Hall, or at (517-355-0366).
