Haunted Aud to Transform Auditorium into Camp Red Cedar

MSU’s Department of Theatre invites you to join them at Camp Red Cedar for the 9th annual Haunted Auditorium, scheduled for October 27-29. Filled with trapped souls and chilling tales, the Haunted Aud is perfect for a Halloween spook.

This year’s event will transform the Auditorium into a summer camp overrun by a killer on a killing spree where visitors must follow clues to try and figure out who the murderer is.

The production is led by Theatre students Brooke Lys and Joseph Lancour, who together produced the entire production and spent weeks coordinating and preparing Camp Red Cedar.

“Being a producer of the Haunted Aud has been an incredibly rewarding experience,” Lys said. “It has been a lot of work and a lot of stress, but it is worth all of it. Even through rough patches, I was learning how to handle situations, problem solve efficiently, and how to constantly be professional no matter what. I have a better sense of my professional self and I can apply that in any future job situation.”

The Haunted Aud will be spread out over three floors of the Auditorium where six areas of the house will be transformed into Camp Red Cedar with student-designed sets and student actors around every corner.

“We had students send in designs, and then as producers, we went through and chose which ones we thought would work best with the theme,” Lys said. “Students also act in the production and will have special effects makeup done, also done by students.”

The Haunted Aud is a fundraising event to help further the experiences of Theatre students. Money raised will support the grants awarded by stART, a student organization affiliated with the Department of Theatre where, based on how many hours students work for selected stART activities, they receive grants that can be used to help them with their careers.

“A lot of seniors use the grant money to go on a senior showcase in New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles,” Lys said. “Our record for the most money raised during Haunted Aud is more than $30,000, and we will try to beat that amount.”

Before it is open to the public, the Haunted Aud will be previewed by several groups including Tower Guard, Impact Radio, FAME, and youth from a local shelter.
