Arts and Letters Scholarships, Awards, and Prizes
There are more than 125 scholarships, awards, and prizes within the College of Arts and Letters alone for which you may be eligible to apply! A few of these are highlighted below.
College of Arts and Letters Alumni Scholarship
Eligible students are notified by the College of Arts and Letters. This scholarship is based on financial need. Financial aid application must be on file with MSU (The Office of Financial Aid will provide determination of financial need), have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, with freshman or above class standing and seeking a degree in the College of Arts and Letters. Recipients of this award are recognized at the spring Arts and Letters Awards Convocation. The amount of the award depends on available funds. The award will be credited during the tuition payment process. Application deadline for fall 2009 semester is 12:00p.m., noon on November 1 - Application deadline for spring 2010 semester is 12:00p.m., noon on February 25. Download the application here.
Marcellette Gay Williams Award - NEW SCHOLARSHIP!!!
All MSU students with a sophomore standing and minimum GPA of 2.5 who can demonstrate a record of civic, volunteer, and/or community service are eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted to 200 Linton Hall. Recipients of this award are recognized at the spring Arts and Letters Awards Convocation. The amount of the award depends on available funds. The award will be credited during the tuition payment process. Application deadline is 12:00p.m., noon on November 1. Download the application here.
Ryder Scholarship
All MSU students who are planning to study abroad are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Past recipients have had a GPA of 3.5 or above. Awards can be used for study abroad programs offered during the summer, fall, or spring semester. Applications must be submitted to 200 Linton Hall. Recipients of this scholarship are recognized at the spring Arts and Letters Awards Convocation. The amount of the award depends on available funds. The award will be credited during the tuition payment process. Application deadline is 12:00 p.m., noon on February 25. Download the application here.
The John W. Eadie Scholarship in Arts and Letters for International Education
Eligible students are notified by the College of Arts and Letters. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and will reach senior standing by the following fall semester. The recipient is recognized at the spring Arts and Letters Awards Convocation. The amount of the award depends on available funds. The award will be credited during the tuition payment process. The William J. Lowe Endowed Scholarship for Undergraduate Study in Ireland
Eligible students are notified by the College of Arts and Letters. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 with sophomore or above class standing (minimum 28 credits), be seeking a degree in the College of Arts and Letters and planning to study abroad in Ireland for the upcoming spring, summer, or fall semesters. Recipients are recognized at the spring Arts and Letters Award Convocation. The amount of the award depends on available funds. The award will be credited during the tuition payment process. Louis B. Sudler Prize in the Arts
Scholarship announcements are mailed to departments that teach creative and performing arts within the College of Arts and Letters and to the dean of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. Students must be nominated by faculty in those units and nomination must also include a letter of endorsement from the chair or director of the unit. Recipients are recognized at the spring Arts and Letters Awards Convocation. The amount of the award depends on available funds. The Sudler Prize is a cash award. The Audrey and John Leslie Endowed Scholarship in Arts and Letters
Eligible students are notified by the College of Arts and Letters. This scholarship is based on financial need. Financial aid application must be on file with MSU (The Office of Financial Aid office will provide financial need determination). Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, be in their sophomore year when applying (28-55 credits earned), and be of junior status (56-87 credits earned) the semester following receipt of the award. Assuming the recipient maintains academic eligibility, he or she may reapply for the scholarship for a second consecutive year; if the second year is the student's senior year the recipient may reapply for the scholarship to support graduate study in a program offered by the College of Arts and Letters. Recipients are recognized at the spring Arts and Letters Award Convocation. The amount of the award depends on the funds available. The award will be credited during the tuition payment process. The Marian Lee Aylesworth Award in Arts and Letters
Eligible students are notified by the College of Arts and Letters. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.5. Preference will be given to students majoring in English or History (Social Science History majors are eligible to apply) with membership in the Honors College. The recipient is recognized at the spring College of Arts and Letters Award Convocation. The amount of the award depends on available funds. The Nora Sager Stackhouse Endowed Scholarship in Arts and Letters
Eligible students are notified by the College of Arts and Letters. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, be in their sophomore year (28-55 credits earned), and be of junior status (56-87 credits earned) the semester following receipt of the award. Recipients are recognized at the spring College of Arts and Letters Award Convocation. The amount of the award depends on the funds available. College of Arts and Letters Outstanding Senior Achievement Award
Eligible students are notified by the College of Arts and Letters. One award of $1000 is given to an Arts and Letters graduating senior (May, August, or December) with an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher. Applications require the endorsement of the applicant's chairperson or director and are due in the student's department office on February 19. Department/Program Offices will submit packets to 200 Linton Hall by 12 p.m., noon January 25. The recipient is recognized at the spring College of Arts and Letters Award Convocation. The Alumni Endowed Student Book Scholarship and Robert L. Fiore Student Book Scholarship in Arts and Letters
Several $500 book scholarships are available to students majoring in programs offered by the College of Arts and Letters. Applicants must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors with a record of academic excellence, particularly in Arts and Letters courses. Applications are due March 1 of each year to the Office of Alumni Relations, for the following academic year. Download the PDF instructions and application.
